San Diego Skechers Shape-ups Injury Attorneys

It is understandable to be attracted to the hype of new products, especially when A-list celebrities are enthusiastically touting the benefits in glossy magazine ads and much-talked-about Super Bowl commercials. But beyond the glamour and the glitz of Skechers Shape-ups, there is the reality: the toning shoes are dangerous. A growing number of podiatrists, physicians, personal trainers and other medical and fitness experts are quickly realizing that the shoes cause serious injuries, including serious orthopedic injuries to the feet, ankles, knees, legs and hips. If you suffered serious injuries as a result of wearing toning shoes, you may be entitled to compensation from the manufacturer of the shoe for the medical care you need and the pain and suffering you endured.

Skechers Shape-ups Advertise a Wide Range of Health Benefits

The manufacturers of Skechers Shape-ups and other similar style toning shoes claim that wearing toning shoes will help wearers tone leg muscles, burn more calories, and improve posture and circulation, without a vigorous workout or trip to the gym. Not long after their debut, numerous medical and fitness experts raised questions about the clams the manufacturers of the shoes made regarding their actual effectiveness. In July 2010, the American Council on Exercise (ACE), released the findings from an independent research study on the effectiveness of popular toning shoes including Skechers Shape-Ups, MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology) and Reebok EasyTones. The study found "no evidence to suggest that the shoes help wearers exercise more intensely, burn more calories or improve muscle strength and tone."

CPSC Toning Shoe Injury Reports

While the benefits may be doubted, the injury risk associated with the shoes is real. From March 11, 2011 to May 22, 2011, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), an independent agency of the federal government, reported receiving 36 complaints from individuals who have been injured while wearing toning shoes. Injuries result both from losing and balance and falling while wearing the shoes, and from overuse injuries. Some people have reported suffering injuries that have required multiple invasive surgeries, hospitalization, and lengthy rehabilitation.

What To Do If You Have Been Injured

If you have suffered a serious injury, it is important that you keep your shoes. Do not give them away, sell them, or donate them, as they are important evidence in your claim. Secondly, it is important, for the purpose of documenting your injuries, that you tell your doctor that you were wearing toning shoes when you suffered an injury. Finally, talk to a lawyer who is handling these claims. Estey Bomberger personal injury lawyers are currently screening Skechers product liability claims nationwide.
