Poway man dies in bicycle accident

San Diego, CA - Mark Sweet, 53, was riding his motorcycle north on Mussey Grade Road around 9:50 p.m. on April 26th. California Highway Patrol Officers stated that Mr. Sweet was speeding when he lost control of his motorcycle while turning left in a curve. He was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido where he died of blunt force injuries.
Military Truck Hits Car, Injured Driver

Around 1:20 p.m. on April 28th, a military truck was traveling southbound on Kearny Villa Road in Kearny Mesa. The driver ran a red light, and struck an Infiniti which had just turned north onto Kearny Villa Road from Route 163. The driver of the Infiniti was 18 years old, and was hospitalized with major head and internal injuries. The military driver was unhurt.
Taxi Cab Driver Trapped After Accident

A trolley and a cab collided around 5:00 p.m. on April 27th at State and C Streets in downtown San Diego. It took 15 firefighters and paramedics nearly an hour to free the cab driver from the wreckage. The top and the side door of the taxi had to be cut off, then an air bag was used to lift the trolley off the taxi. A chain was then attached to the taxi to drag it from the trolley. The cab driver was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The cause of crash has not yet been determined.
Two Year Old Killed by Car

A driver ran over her neighbor’s 2-year-old son, Derek Siaosi, around 2:40 p.m. on April 29th. The driver was waving to the boy’s mother while driving near Lemon Leaf Drive and Phoebe Place in Carlsbad. Neither the driver nor the mother saw the child run in the street before the driver struck and ran over him. Another neighbor gave CPR to the 2-year-old while waiting for paramedics to arrive. The boy was flown to Rady Children’s Hospital where he died about one hour later. The driver was not cited, but police are planning to conduct an investigation to determine how the accident occurred.
Motorcyclist Dies After Rear Ending Car

An accident occurred between a Harley Davidson and a BMW around 1:00 p.m. on April 29th. The 42-year-old motorcyclist, Kelly Lynn Renfroe, was driving at about 65 mph while traveling westbound on Route 78 east of Mission Road. She crossed into another lane and then collided with the left rear of the BMW. Ms. Renfroe was thrown over the handlebars of the bike and later died of major head injuries.
