NOVEMBER 3, 2008 — The CHP reported a 64-year-old alpine man died Monday in Harbison Canyon, when his motorcycle struck a Eucalyptus tree on Harbison Canyon road. The rural east county motorcycle accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m, at the 500 block of Harbison Canyon Road, near St. George Drive. The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead from major head injuries at 10:57 a.m. The CHP is investigating the Harbison Canyon motorcycle crash, and reported there were no skid marks or any indication that the motorcyclist attempted to slow down before striking the tree. 

NOVEMBER 3, 2008 — Authorities reported Gwendolyn Wheeler, 49, of Lakeside, died Saturday of injuries after being struck by a car while selling flowers on the shoulder of Lake Jennings Park Road in East County. Witnesses reported to the California Highway Patrol that Wheeler was talking to a driver in a taxi that had pulled over to talk to her, when a pickup truck struck the taxi, which then hit Wheeler. Wheeler was flown to a hospital, where she died of her injuries. The driver of the taxi was also seriously injured.  The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt, but was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication. The CHP is investigating the Lakeside fatality crash.

NOVEMBER 3, 2008 — Oceanside Police reported two men died after an accident early Sunday morning on El Camino Real in Oceanside. The Oceanside fatality accident happened shortly before 2 a.m. near Mission Road, north of SR-76. The men, who were driving a green 2001 Lexus IS300, were trapped inside the vehicle when it caught fire. Police reported the car drifted off the road, rolled over and hit a light pole.  Police believe there were no witnesses to the incident, and are asking anyone with information to call the Oceanside police. The identity of the two men has not been released.
