OCTOBER 16, 2008 — The California Highway Patrol reported a San Diego traffic collision at 4:15 this afternoon involving an overturned big rig and a motorcycle on northbound Interstate 15, just north of eastbound SR-52. An ambulance responded to the crash scene and minor injuries were reported. Traffic temporarily came to a standstill and Cal trans blocked off multiple lanes of traffic for an investigation of the San Diego truck accident.
OCTOBER 16, 2008 – Oceanside police have reported a 47-year-old man died after being struck by a pickup truck at about 2 a.m. this morning. Police believe the man was a transient. The man was crossing State Route 76 west of College Avenue when he was struck. He died at the scene. One westbound lane of SR 76 was closed while police investigated the Oceanside pedestrian accident.
A motorist who killed a woman in a 2007 San Diego auto accident has pleaded guilty. 47-year-old John Joseph Taskey was traveling westbound on Interstate 8 when he rear-ended another vehicle near West Mission Bay Drive. A passenger in that vehicle, 75-year-old Rosa Degerman, suffered severe internal injuries. She died the next day. It was discovered that Mr. Taskey’s blood-alcohol content was over the legal limit at the time of the crash and he also had five prior DUI convictions. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder this week and may face 15 years to life in prison.
