A skateboarder was injured in Carmel Valley on August 12^th. The 18-year-old was skateboarding in front of Ashley Falls Elementary School when he rode into the street, colliding with a car’s tire. He was transported to the hospital with a broken collarbone.

An arrest has been made in the death of an El Cajon boy. 3-year-old Zachary Foster was visiting his grandparents in Fruitland Park, Fla. when a car drove up on to the front lawn where the boy was playing. Zachary was struck by the vehicle and pushed against a parked car. His father attempted to revive him while waiting for emergency responders, but Zachary later died at a Leesburg hospital. The driver was arrested shortly after the accident on suspicion of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, vehicular homicide, and driving without a license. 

The Medical Examiner has altered his account concerning the August 5^th death of a child in Oceanside. 5-year-old Cheyenne Kouba of Las Vegas was visiting her grandfather on
South Pacific Street in when she was found dead at the bottom of the complex’s stairwell. Investigators initially believed Cheyenne fell 15 feet from a walkway. However, they now think that the child actually fell from a window. It is believed that she may have pressed against a screen, pushing it out of the frame. Cheyenne then fell 30 feet out of the open window. Her mother had called the police when she was unable to find the girl, then noticed her at the bottom of the stairs. Cheyenne was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital where she was pronounced dead due to head and neck injuries.

An accident between a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck injured two and affected traffic for several hours on August 14^th. The semi-trailer struck the pickup on westbound Interstate 8, causing both vehicles to hit the center median just east of Severin Drive. Large pieces of cement were thrown into the eastbound lanes when the vehicles struck the divider, and fuel was spilled on the roadway. Traffic was halted in both directions, as well as local roads in El Cajon. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
