A teenager was killed in Lakeside on August 13th. He was traveling westbound on Interstate 8 when a driver traveling eastbound lost control of his vehicle. That car crossed into the westbound lanes and collided with the Chevy Trailblazer the teen was riding in. The Trailblazer flipped several times. The other vehicle then struck a pickup truck, which collided with a car. The teenager was killed and five others were transported to the hospital. Authorities do not believe that drugs or alcohol are involved; however the driver was speeding and may be charged with manslaughter.
A pedestrian was killed in Rancho Sante Fe on August 9th. The 24-year-old man was walking on Del Dios Highway at approximately 5:30 a.m. when he was struck by a Honda Civic. The 23-year-old driver tried to avoid the man, but his vehicle overturned. The victim died at the scene near Calle Ambiente.
A child was injured after an accident on August 7th in Vista. The 8-year-old boy was riding a bicycle at the intersection of E East Drive and East Indian Rock Road when he was struck by a vehicle. He was thrown on to the car’s windshield, where he remained for approximately 35 feet before falling off. The driver continued to drive, stopping only to remove the bicycle that was stuck under the vehicle. The victim was flown to the hospital with a broken leg and a lacerated elbow.
Five people were sent to the hospital after an accident in National City. A 22-year-old woman was traveling on East Fourth Street when she fell asleep behind the wheel of her SUV. Her vehicle drifted across the center dividing line and collided with a pickup truck. Both drivers suffered serious injuries, and three children in the pickup truck were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
