NOVEMBER 25, 2009 - A cyclist died Tuesday night after colliding with a San Diego Trolley in the Mount Hope area, police reported. The accident occurred on Imperial Avenue near Edgefield Way at about 5:12 p.m. According to the San Diego Medical Examiner’s office, the operator of the eastbound Metropolitatin Transit System (MTS) Trolley saw the victim riding his bicycle along a side street in Mount Hope near the Greenwood Memorial Park & Mortuary approaching the trolley crossing. The cyclist sped up, possibly in an attempt to cross the street before the trolley passed. The trolley then struck the cyclist, who died at the scene. The San Diego police are investigating the cause of the crash.
NOVEMBER 9, 2009 – Authorities have reported a 63-year-old San Diego man was killed Monday morning in University City when his bicycle collided with a police vehicle. The crash occurred at the intersection of Genesee Avenue and Governor Drive in University City at approximately 7:19 a.m. The cyclist was travelling south on Genessee when he was struck at the intersection. The driver of the patrol car was reportedly responding to a traffic accident when the collision occurred. The victim, who has not been identified, died at the scene of the crash. The cause of the fatal San Diego bicycle accident is still under investigation.

JULY 27, 2009 - A 4-year-old girl riding on a bicycle with her father was killed when they were struck by a San Diego trolley, authorities said. Veronica Ramirez of Chula Vista died while trying to cross the tracks with her father. They were riding west on L Street, just west of Industrial Boulevard, when the accident occurred, according to Chula Vista police. The girl was in a child seat but was not wearing a helmet when the collision occurred about 6:30 p.m., authorities said. Witnesses told police that the father entered the intersection after the automatic arms that prevent vehicles from crossing the tracks had been lowered, authorities said. The father and daughter were thrown about 40 feet down the tracks after the collision, authorities said. The girl was pronounced dead about 30 minutes after the accident at Rady Children’s Hospital in Kearny Mesa, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner. The 34-year-old father was being treated at a San Diego Hospital for a broken hip and possible internal injuries, police said. The Metropolitan Transit System, which operates the trolley line, is investigating the trolley accident.

JULY 27, 2009 - A 23-year-old man was hospitalized with severe head injuries following a bicycle crash, authorities said. The unidentified man was riding south on Soledad Road shortly before noon when the accident occurred near Kate Sessions Memorial Park, according to San Diego police. According to witnesses, a car traveling north on Soledad Road turned left at Alta Vista Way in front of the bicyclist, authorities said. The victim braked to avoid a collision, causing him to crash, police said. The car did not stop. The San Diego Police Department’s traffic division is investigating the bicycle accident.

JULY 21, 2009 - A bicyclist died from injuries suffered in a collision with a car, authorities said. The unidentified cyclist was struck near the intersection of Cole Grade Road and Bernabeo Court around 8:20 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. Emergency personnel responded and transported the victim to Palomar Medical Center, said a dispatcher with Cal Fire. A short time later, an investigator with the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office was called to collect the cyclist’s body, authorities said. The CHP is investigating the bicycle collision.

JULY 7, 2009 – This morning police arrested Sukru Safa Cinar, 23, of Turkey, in connection with a pedicab accident in downtown San Diego on Sunday, July 5, that fatally injured a passenger.
According to the San Diego County Medial Examiner, Sharon Miller, 60, of Illinois, had been visiting San Diego for an education conference. She, along with another woman took a pedicab on July 4 at about 11:40 a.m. to Seaport Village. The pedicab driver drove Miller and her friend on Martin Luther King Promenade towards Seaport Village, on a pedestrian only path that prohibits bicycles and pedicabs. The pedicab did not have seatbelts, as required by law.
For reasons not known, Cinar swerved the pedicab in a “serpentine” motion, causing Miller to fall out of the vehicle and strike her head. She was taken to UCSD medical center, where physicians diagnosed her with a closed head injury. The next day, she was pronounced brain dead.
Cinar, who faces a felony charge of involuntary manslaughter, was taken into custody on Island Avenue near 14th Street Tuesday morning. Police are still investigating.
JULY 5, 2009 – A woman suffered a serious head injury Saturday morning when she fell out of a pedi-cab in San Diego. The accident occurred on Harbor Drive, near First Avenue, at about 11:40 a.m. The victim, who was only described as a 60-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital after the pedi-cab driver reportedly made an unsafe movement. No further details were available.

JUNE 29, 2009 - A 32-year-old man was seriously injured after crashing his bicycle into a parked car in the Stockton neighborhood, authorities said. The victim was not wearing a helmet, according to San Diego police. The man was riding at a high rate of speed on J Street near 33rd Street about 2:20 p.m. He was unable to complete a turn in the road and crashed into the parked vehicle, authorities said. Police are investigating the crash.

JUNE 28, 2009 - A bicyclist was seriously injured after colliding with a vehicle, authorities said. The victim was struck about 8:25 a.m. on Ramona Oaks Road near Watt Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The area is near the Equestrian Center in San Diego Country Estates. The victim was airlifted to Palomar Hospital in Escondido, according to authorities. The extent of the rider’s injuries are unknown. The CHP is investigating the collision.

JUNE 24, 2009 - A bicyclist was seriously injured after slamming into a car that had cut him off, authorities said. The accident occurred about 6:25 p.m. as the man pedaled on El Camino Real near Vista Way, according to a battalion chief with the Oceanside Fire Department. Witnesses said a small car cut in front of the bicyclist, causing him to collide with the vehicle. The man was hurled over the handlebars and landed on his shoulders and head, authorities said. The bicyclist was wearing a helmet, but claimed he could not remember anything about the accident, officials said. He was flown by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and treated for unknown injuries. The Oceanside Police Department is investigating the accident.
