MARCH 15, 2010 - The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig Alert following a hit-and-run rollover crash on Interstate 5 in Del Mar Tuesday morning. According to CHP reports, an SUV was hit from behind by an unknown vehicle and rolled four to five times. The accident occurred on southbound I-5, just south of Del Mar Heights Road on March 15th. The cause of the San Diego County SUV rollover accident remains under investigation. A description of the vehicle that caused the accident and left the scene was not immediately available. Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the SUV rollover crash.
AUGUST 22, 2009 – A 27-year-old man was killed early Saturday in a solo-vehicle SUV rollover accident in Chula Vista, authorities reported. The San Diego County crash occurred on H Street, near Fourth Avenue at 4:15 a.m. The driver, whose name was not released, was ejected from his Chevrolet Tahoe and died at the scene of the crash. Further details were not immediately available. Police are investigating the cause of the Chula Vista auto accident.

AUGUST 16, 2009 - A 60-year-old man died when his Suzuki Sidekick overturned in northeastern San Diego County, authorities said. John Paul Howard of Borrego Springs was driving east on Highway 78 when the sports-utility vehicle went off the roadway and rolled over several times, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner. Passing motorists spotted the wreckage and called emergency personnel. He was not wearing seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:41 p.m., officials said. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal SUV rollover crash.

JULY 13, 2009 - A 22-year-old woman was killed when her sports utility vehicle rolled several times on Interstate 8, authorities said. Kimberly Rose Bateman of Pacific Beach was driving west on I-8 about 10:30 p.m. when she lost control of her Hyundai Santa Fe just west of Dunbar Lane, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office. The vehicle veered off the freeway and into the median, where it rolled several times, authorities said. Bateman was ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Sharp Memorial Hospital, officials said. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the car accident.

JULY 13, 2009 - A woman was ejected from a sports utility vehicle and died on a rural stretch of Interstate 8, authorities said. The unidentified woman was an unrestrained rear passenger in a GMC Envoy that was traveling west on I-8 shortly before 3 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. A left rear tire apparently began rapidly losing air about five miles west of Dunaway Road, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and flip over on the dirt shoulder, authorities said. Another unrestrained rear passenger was also ejected, but her injuries were not considered life-threatening. The driver of the SUV, identified as 28-year-old Honibea Danni Smith of Alpine, and a front-seat passenger were wearing seat belts and suffered only minor injuries, authorities said. The CHP is continuing its investigation into the SUV rollover.
JUNE 28, 2009 - A 14-year-old girl was injured when the vehicle she was riding in was hit from behind and overturned, authorities said. The girl was a passenger in a Honda Passport that was rear-ended in heavy traffic by a Camaro, according to an Oceanside police officer. The driver of the Camaro was traveling westbound on State Route 76 at Benet Road about 12:50 p.m. when he failed to slow in time and collided with the Honda, causing it to roll over twice. The victim was ejected from the vehicle, authorities said, and later airlifted to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. Three other teenage occupants of the Honda suffered minor injuries and were transported to Tri-City Medical Center. The driver of the Honda and both occupants of the Camaro were uninjured, authorities said. The Oceanside Police Department is investigating the collision.

JUNE 26, 2009 - A 45-year-old woman from Westchase, Fla. suffered major injuries when the sports utility vehicle she was riding in crashed off Interstate 8, authorities said. The crash occurred about 10 p.m. east of Dunaway Road, when the 2009 Toyota Rav 4 veered off the eastbound lanes, became airborne, struck a perimeter fence and rolled several times, coming to rest on its roof near the frontage road, according to the California Highway Patrol. The unidentified woman, who was not wearing a seat belt, was flown to the University of California San Diego Medical Center, where her condition was unknown Thursday evening. The driver of the SUV, identified as a 41-year-old man from Sierra Vista, Ariz., suffered moderate injuries and was transported to El Centro Regional Medical Center. The CHP is investigating the crash.
APRIL 22, 2009 - A woman was injured in a single-vehicle crash in Rainbow yesterday. 52-year-old Susan Jacobson was traveling south on Interstate 15 when her SUV struck the center guardrail. This caused the vehicle to veer across the roadway and crash into a tree on the right shoulder near Rainbow Valley Boulevard. The SUV then rolled approximately 40 feet down an embankment. Emergency responders had to cut Ms. Jacobson from the wreckage. She was flown to Palomar Medical Center with fractures to her neck, ribs and face.
APRIL 8, 2009 - One person was injured in a rollover accident near Eucalyptus Hills this morning. An SUV was traveling south on State Route 67 when the vehicle overturned and tumbled approximately 50 feet down an embankment. Emergency responders had to free several occupants from the wreckage. One person was flown to the hospital with serious injuries.
MARCH 4, 2009 - The drunk driver who killed his passenger in Poway last year has been sentenced. 19-year-old Richard Caldwell and three passengers were leaving a party last April 10th when he lost control of his SUV. The vehicle rolled several times, killing passenger Charles Amaro II and injuring two others. Mr. Caldwell was also seriously injured in the crash. He had been speeding at the time of the accident and his blood-alcohol level was .12%. Mr. Caldwell pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. He was sentenced to 56 months in prison.
