Medical Supply Company Sued By Escondido Woman
APRIL 30, 2009 - A woman in Escondido has sued a medical supply company that manufactures surgical screws after suffering post-operative problems. Doctors implanted a Calaxo screw in Cheryl Dailey’s knee after a skiing accident in 2007. After the surgery, the screw became dislodged from her bone, causing Ms. Dailey a great deal of pain not only in her knee, but also her neck, back and shoulder. This required two additional surgeries and treatment to improve her mobility. Ms. Dailey sued Smith & Nephew Inc., the manufacturer and distributor of the Calaxo screw. Similar situations have been reported nationwide, leading the company to recall the screw due to problems such as premature material degradation and fluid build-up.
