San Diego Man Killed Thursday in Rollover Crash on Interstate 5 Involving Big Rig

SEPTEMBER 17, 2009 – A San Diego man died Thursday in a crash on the connector ramp from southbound Interstate 5 to eastbound Highway 78, authorities have reported. The crash, which occurred just before 7 a.m. Thursday, involved a 2002 Lexus IS 300 and a big rig towing a 32 foot cargo trailer. For unknown reasons, the driver of the big rig lost control of the truck on the offramp and rolled onto the Lexus. The driver and sole occupant of the Lexus, Gustavo Gracia, 33, of north county, died at the scene. The driver of the big rig, a 32-year-old Bellflower man, was taken to Palomar Medical Center with minor injuries. The connector ramp to Highway 78 was closed for nearly five hours while authorities investigated. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the fatal Highway 5 accident.

Woman Killed Monday Afternoon by Amtrak Train in Encinitas

OCTOBER 27, 2008 - The Encinitas sheriff’s department has reported a woman was struck and killed Monday afternoon by a northbound Amtrak train near the D Street station in Encinitas. The train engineer applied the emergency brakes and sounded off the train’s horn, but was unable to stop the train before hitting the woman, whose identity has not been released..  Amtrak train service does not stop at the Encinitas train station, so the train was speeding through at 77 m.p.h., within the allowed speeds.  The sheriff’s department said the 58-year-old woman jumped from the station platform and spread out her arms in front of the oncoming train.  Rail service was halted for several hours while the medical examiner’s office and sheriff’s deputies investigated the Encinitas train accident.

Highway 76 Collision Leaves Two Motorcyclists Injured

OCTOBER 26, 2008 – A motorcycle accident in Oceanside last night on the westbound side of state route 76 left two motorcyclists badly injured, authorities reported. The accident happened at about 7:35 p.m. Saturday evening. A group of motorcyclists riding together were stopped at a red light at Guajome Lake Road.  When the light turned to green, two motorcyclists sped away from the group.  One motorcyclist did a “wheelie” and hit another motorcyclist, causing him to be thrown from his bike.  One rider severed his leg below the knee, and was transferred by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.  Another rider was taken by ambulance to Tri-City hospital. The California Highway Patrol shut down SR-76 temporarily while they investigated the Oceanside motorcycle accident.

Two People Killed in Collision on SR-67

OCTOBER 24, 2008 — The California Highway Patrol has reported a head-on fatality auto accident on SR-67 near Archie Moore Road. The San Diego fatality accident happened at about 8:45 a.m.  A woman was driving south on SR-67 and did not see that traffic in front of her had stopped. She swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with another vehicle, killing a man and woman. Responding medical personnel took the driver to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido to be treated for her injuries. Highway 67 was closed for several hours while the CHP investigated the accident.

Pregnant Woman Hit by Car and Killed in Vista

OCTOBER 24, 2008 — San Diego county sheriff’s officials have reported a seventh months pregnant woman was killed last night when she was hit by a speeding 1968 Chevrolet Camaro.  The woman, who’s name has not yet been released, was 19 years old.  The Vista pedestrian accident happened at about 10:20 p.m. outside of her home on North Santa Fe Avenue near Bobier Drive, in Vista.

The driver of the car was Mark Allen Davidson, 21. Police reported he was driving at speeds exceeding 80 mp when he lost control of the car, hitting the woman and slamming into a fence.  The victim  of the Vista fatality accident was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.   Davidson and his four other passengers, a man, a woman, and two girls, all suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital.  After treatment, Davidson was booked into the Vista jail on several charges.

21-Year-Old Woman Killed in Scripps Ranch Accident

OCTOBER 23, 2008 — San Diego Police have reported a fatal high speed accident early this morning in Scripps Ranch. The driver, a 21-year-old woman who has not yet been identified, was travelling east on Pomerado Road when she lost control of her car and hit a tree shortly after 1:15 a.m. The impact reportedly caused the woman to be ejected from her car. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Driver and Two Passengers Injured in Shelltown Speeding Accident

OCTOBER 23, 2008 — San Diego Police reported three people were injured last night in a San Diego speeding accident on Epsilon Street near National City last night.  The accident happened at around 11 p.m. The driver was speeding and lost control of his Chevrolet sedan when he reportedly hit a dip too fast, causing the car to hit several parked cars. The 24-year-old male driver fractured his hip, the female passenger in the front seat broke her jaw, and another female passenger in the back seat complained of chest pain.  All three were taken to a local hospital for treatment, police reported.

Woman Found Dead on I-805 Freeway

OCTOBER 22, 2008 - The California Highway Patrol has reported the body of a woman was found lying on southbound 805 this morning, at approximately 1:15 a.m. The body was found in the slow lane of I-805 near the SR-163 split. They believe the woman, whose injuries were so bad they could not determine her age, is the victim of a hit and run auto accident.   Witnesses or anyone with information on the woman’s identity are asked to contact the CHP’s San Diego office.

Two San Diego Police Officers Injured in Crash

OCTOBER 22, 2008 — Police have reported a crash involving a police patrol car this morning in City Heights, leaving two police officers with minor injuries.  The intersection accident occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. at Home Avenue and Euclid Avenue this morning.  The patrol car was apparently broadsided by another vehicle, whose driver was not injured.  The cause of this San Diego intersection accident is still being investigated.

San Diego Man Died Friday after Falling down Cliff near Marin Headlands Lighthouse

OCTOBER 20, 2008 — The Marin County coroner’s office has identified the victim of a cliff fall from near the Point Bonita Lighthouse in Marin Headlands as Adrian Macias, 27, of San Diego.  The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. on Friday. Macias was walking in Marin Headlands with his friends when he fell 200 feet to his death.  The United States Coast Guard responded to a 911 call and recovered the body in rocks below the cliffs at around 11:40 p.m.  An autopsy revealed that the victim died of a massive blunt force injury, according to a spokeswoman for the coroner’s office.
