Elderly Pedestrian Killed Friday in Chula Vista Hit and Run

JANUARY 5, 2009 – Ventura Ortiz Madragal, 79, was killed when he was hit by an SUV in Chula Vista Friday Night, National City Police have reported. Madragal was crossing the street at Highland Avenue and 6th Street when he was hit by an SUV driving southbound on Highland Avenue.  The driver of the SUV did not stop at the accident scene and Madragal was pronounced dead at the scene.  The accident happened at around 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2009.  National City Police are investigating the pedestrian accident and looking for the driver. 

Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Cardiff

DECEMBER 29, 2008 — The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of James Newton Robert Zerfas, 62 of Cardiff-By-The-Sea. Zerfas was killed after he was struck by a vehicle while walking on Coast Highway 101, south of Chesterfield Drive, at about 11:10 p.m. Saturday night. The female driver driving northbound on 101 told accident investigators that she did not see Zerfas before she struck him. She tested negative for a breath alcohol test. Zerfas was pronounced dead at the scene of the pedestrian accident.

Pedestrian Killed on Christmas Eve in Miramar Area

DECEMBER 27, 2008 – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man struck and killed by a motorcycle on Wednesday evening as Leonardo Ramirez Palado, 79, of San Diego. The pedestrian accident happened around 5 p.m.  Palado was crossing Miramar Road near Clayton Drive when he was hit by a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.  He was pronounced dead at the scene The driver of the motorcycle, whose identity has not been released, was thrown from his bike and was seriously injured.  San Diego Police are investigating the Miramar accident.  

Pedestrian In Critical Condition After Being Hit by Car in Chula Vista Wednesday Night

DECEMBER 18, 2008 – Police reported a 44-year-old man was struck by a BMW on F Street in Chula Vista late Wednesday night. The man, whose identity was not released, had crossed the eastbound lanes of F Street when he paused to wait for a car to make a turn, and was subsequently hit by a car whose driver did not see him.  The man suffered serious head injuries, broken ribs and other injuries in the pedestrian accident.  He was transported to a hospital where he is in very serious condition.   The driver of the BMW, a 36-year-old woman from Chula Vista, stopped after the accident. She was arrested and booked for multiple charges, including possession of methamphetamine, bringing methamphetamine into a jail, and driving under the influence of drugs. 

Pedestrian Killed Tuesday on El Camino Real in Carlsbad

DECEMBER 17, 2008 – An unidentified male pedestrian was killed after he was struck by a car Tuesday afternoon in Carlsbad. The San Diego Medical Examiner’s office is working to identify the victim, who is described as a Latino man between the ages of 30 and 40.  The pedestrian accident happened when the man attempted to cross El Camino Real  north of Cannon Road in Carlsbad.  Medics attempted to revive the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The accident is currently being investigated, but police do not believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the El Camino Real accident. 

Pedestrian Struck and Killed on I-15 Monday Night

DECEMBER 16, 2008  The CHP has reported an unidentified woman was struck and killed by a Toyota Corolla on I-15 North Monday night.  The freeway accident happened near Miramar Way at about 10 p.m. The driver of the Toyota, a 34-year-old woman from Chula Vista, was not injured in the crash.  The woman, who has not been identified but is described as being between the ages of 20 and 30, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The cause of the I-15 fatality crash is being investigated. 

48-Year-Old Man Killed Wednesday Night in Lakeside Pedestrian Accident

DECEMBER 4, 2008 The California Highway Patrol reported a man was killed Wednesday night when he was struck by a Dodge Ram on Woodside Avenue at Riverford Road in Lakeside.  The victim has been identified as Christopher Raymond Magness, 48, of Santee. The accident was reported about 7 p.m., and Magness died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Dodge Ram that hit Magness was not injured.  

Escondido Woman Seriously Injured in Pedestrian Accident

DECEMBER 2, 2008 Police have reported a 69-year-old Escondido woman was very seriously injured Monday when she was struck by a car.  The woman, whose identity has not been released, was crossing East Grand Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. when a black Volvo hit her.   She was not using a pedestrian crossing.  The woman suffered serious leg injuries and was unconscious at the scene.  She was taken to a trauma center nearby, according to police.  The driver of the Volvo, a 59-year-old man from Escondido, was not injured in the accident.  There were no other passengers in the car.  The cause of the Escondido pedestrian accident is currently being investigated.

 

Transient Pedestrian Injured Monday Night in Logan Heights Hit-And-Run

NOVEMBER 26, 2008 – A homeless man was hospitalized Monday night for injuries he sustained after a car went off the road and landed upside-down on him while he was sleeping. Firefighters rescued the homeless man, who was pinned under the vehicle.  He is expected to survive. Police are searching for the driver of the car and two passengers who ran away from the accident on foot.  The accident happened Monday, just after 10 p.m. in the East Village area at 17th Street and Commercial Street.

Man Killed in Bay Terraces Pedestrian Accident

NOVEMBER 18, 2008 Police reported a 60-year-old man was killed early Tuesday morning when he was hit by a car in the  bay terraces area.  The accident occurred on the 6900 block of Paradise Valley Road near South Woodman Street, at about 12:30 a.m. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
