Teenager Struck by Taxi Tuesday in Pacific Beach

OCTOBER 21, 2009 – Police reported a teenage girl was struck by a taxi Tuesday evening in Pacific Beach. The girl, who was not identified, was walking in the 2200 block of Garnet Avenue around 5:30 p.m. when she was struck. The taxi reportedly pulled into the street and struck her. The girl was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital with facial injuries. The cause of the Pacific Beach pedestrian accident remains under investigation.

Man In Wheelchair Run Over By Driver Talking on Cell Phone Tuesday in East Village

OCTOBER 14, 2009 – A man in a wheelchair was seriously injured Tuesday evening when he was struck by a vehicle at an East Village intersection. The intersection accident occurred just before 5 p.m. at Ninth Avenue and E Street, San Diego police said. According to witnesses, the driver of the sedan that hit the man was talking on his cell phone when he struck another vehicle and then the man in the wheelchair, knocking him out of the chair and running over him. The driver’s cell phone was confiscated so police could determine what time a call was received or made. The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the trauma center at UCSD with serious injuries. The East Village pedestrian accident remains under investigation.

Boy Struck By Car Tuesday Night in Clairemont

SEPTEMBER 9, 2009 – A young boy was struck by a car Tuesday night in Clairemont, the San Diego Police reported. The accident occurred at about 7 p.m. on Idlewild Way, near the intersection of Jutland Drive. The boy, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Vista Man Struck and Killed Thursday by Pickup Truck in San Marcos

AUGUST 28, 2009 – A man was killed early Thursday morning in San Marcos, San Diego County Sheriff’s officials have reported. The San Marcos pedestrian accident occurred just before 5:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Grand Avenue. The victim, who was struck by a 2000 Toyota Tacoma, was identified as Miguel Becerra Mendoza, 46, of Vista. He was reportedly struck while crossing the street. Mendoza was taken to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido where he was pronounced dead. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fatal pedestrian accident.

Pedestrian Injured Monday in San Marcos Parking Lot by Suspected Drunk Driver

AUGUST 18, 2009 - A woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a suspected drunken driver while walking through the parking lot of a local market, authorities said. The collision occurred about 4:30 p.m. as the woman walked with her husband to their car in the parking lot of San Marcos Market on West Mission Road near Pico Avenue, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. The driver of a Saturn SL was apparently backing up when he struck the woman and dragged her under the car for about 40 feet, officials said. The victim suffered serious internal injuries, as well as injuries to her right arm, back and ribs. The driver fled west on West Mission Road where he was spotted by a Palomar College police officer, officials said. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Leopoldo Morales of San Marcos, was pursued for a short distance before he crashed head-on into a parked car on Descanso Avenue. He fled on foot, but witnesses pointed him out to police and he was arrested on Linda Vista Drive, authorities said. Morales was booked at Vista Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing serious bodily injury, hit-and-run and evading arrest, authorities said. He was held on an immigration hold. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is continuing to investigate the pedestrian accident.

Skateboarder Injured in Collision With SUV Sunday Night in Encinitas

AUGUST 17, 2009 - A young skateboarder was hospitalized after he was struck by a sports-utility vehicle at a San Diego County intersection, authorities said. Witnesses told investigators the skateboarder was riding east on Encinitas Boulevard about 11 p.m. when he reached the intersection with six-lane El Camino Real, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. He entered the intersection at the end of a green light for eastbound traffic, but it turned red before he could get through the northbound lanes of El Camino Real. A truck in northbound lanes waited for the victim to cross, but an SUV in an adjacent lane did not see the youth and he was struck with the left-front fender, authorities said. The impact hurled the boy into the intersection. He was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for treatment of unspecified injuries. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the pedestrian accident.

Teenager Struck and Killed Early Saturday in Vista

AUGUST 15, 2009 - The driver of a BMW struck and killed a 19-year-old man who was apparently lying in the road, authorities said. Patrick Aaron Drown of San Marcos was struck about 4 a.m. on Buena Creek Road just east of Robin Hood Road in North San Diego County, according to the California Highway Patrol. He died at the scene, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, authorities said. The CHP is continuing to investigate the fatal pedestrian accident.

Pedestrian Struck by Car Wednesday Night in San Diego

AUGUST 13, 2009 - A man suffered major head injuries when he was struck by a vehicle while walking on a Clairemont street, authorities said. The unidentified man, described as in his 40s, was hit about 9:30 p.m. while walking on Mount Alifan Drive near Balboa Avenue, according to San Diego police. The man was thrown an estimated 30 feet and suffered major head trauma. He was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital in Kearny Mesa in critical condition, police said. The driver remained at the scene and it’s unclear if he will face charges. The San Diego Police Department is investigating the pedestrian accident.

Pedestrian Struck by Car Early Tuesday on I-15 Off-Ramp in San Diego

AUGUST 13, 2009 - A 26-year-old man was seriously injured when he was struck by a car while crossing an off-ramp from Interstate 15, authorities said. The unidentified man was crossing the Aero Drive off-ramp from northbound I-15 when he was struck by a Pontiac G6 about 2:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim was transported to the hospital with major injuries, but was expected to survive, authorities said. The 24-year-old man who was driving the Pontiac was not injured. The CHP is investigating the pedestrian accident.

Pedestrian Struck and Killed Saturday Night in San Diego

AUGUST 11, 2009 - A 53-year-old man died after he was struck by a sports-utility vehicle while attempting to cross a Midway street, authorities said. Maurice Douglas Jones, described by authorities as a transient, was hit by a Chevy Suburban about 8:40 p.m. while attempting to cross in the 3700 block of Camino del Rio West near Hancock Street, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at UCSD Medical Center at 9:23 p.m., officials said. Investigators said Jones was illegally crossing the street when he was struck by the northbound SUV. The San Diego Police Department is investigating the pedestrian fatality.
