DECEMBER 27, 2008 – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man struck and killed by a motorcycle on Wednesday evening as Leonardo Ramirez Palado, 79, of San Diego. The pedestrian accident happened around 5 p.m. Palado was crossing Miramar Road near Clayton Drive when he was hit by a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene The driver of the motorcycle, whose identity has not been released, was thrown from his bike and was seriously injured. San Diego Police are investigating the Miramar accident.
DECEMBER 22, 2008 – The California Highway Patrol reported a 32-year-old man from Escondido was killed in a motorcycle accident Sunday on Highway 76. The accident happened near Cole Grade Road on the La Jolla Indian Reservation. CHP reported the man apparently was unable to negotiate a curve and crashed into a guardrail on his Suzuki motorcycle. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Highway 76 crash. The CHP is investigating the motorcycle accident.
DECEMBER 5, 2008 – A man riding a motorcycle was injured Thursday night after he hit a car in Vista. The motorcyclist was travelling north on Emerald Avenue when he collided with a car that pulled out in front of him. The motorcycle collision accident happened at about 6:15. The motorcyclist, whose name and age have not been released, was flown to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for treatment of unknown injuries. Vista Sheriff’s deputies are currently investigating the cause of the Emerald Avenue motorcycle crash.
DECEMBER 1, 2008 – The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office reported that Ilija Petrovich, 51, of Carlsbad, died at 4 p.m. Sunday after suffering serious head injuries in a motorcycle crash in Pauma Valley Saturday afternoon. Petrovich had been riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Highway 76 with his wife, when the motorcycle struck a stopped pickup truck in the road. Both Petrovich and his wife were thrown from the motorcycle. Petrovich hit several mailboxes before hitting the ground. He was flown to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where he died of his injuries Sunday afternoon. His wife suffered serious shoulder and back injuries in the accident.
NOVEMBER 30, 2008 – The California Highway Patrol reported yesterday a man and a woman were very seriously injured in a collision on Highway 76 between a motorcycle and a pickup near the La Jolla Indian Reservation. The accident happened east of South Grade Road around 12:25 p.m. The cause of the accident is being investigated. One injured party was flown to Palomar Medical Center, and another was transported by ambulance.
NOVEMBER 21, 2008 – Cumberland County, New Jersey, will be paying Eugene Williams, of Bridgeton, $1.5 Million for injuries he suffered in a motorcycle accident in March of 2005, after jury awarded Williams the verdict on Wednesday. The New Jersey accident was caused by dangerous, damaged road conditions. Williams, a trained motorcycle rider wearing full protective gear, suffered a closed injury, ruptured spleen and lacerated liver in the crash. He was unconscious from the accident and had to be flown to a hospital in an air ambulance.
In the three years leading up to the accident, the county had only made minor, temporary fixes to the road with cold tar, which did not correct the roadbed failure problem. County officials did not comment on the case or the verdict. The head of the Cumberland County legal department confirmed that repairs on the Route 555 road had been made.
NOVEMBER 3, 2008 — The CHP reported a 64-year-old alpine man died Monday in Harbison Canyon, when his motorcycle struck a Eucalyptus tree on Harbison Canyon road. The rural east county motorcycle accident occurred at about 10:30 a.m, at the 500 block of Harbison Canyon Road, near St. George Drive. The man, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead from major head injuries at 10:57 a.m. The CHP is investigating the Harbison Canyon motorcycle crash, and reported there were no skid marks or any indication that the motorcyclist attempted to slow down before striking the tree.
A motorcyclist was seriously injured in an accident in North Park on October 23rd. The 47-year-old man was traveling through an alley when he lost control of his motorcycle. The vehicle then veered into traffic on Madison Avenue, where he was struck by another vehicle near 30th Street. The car then ran him over, resulting in severe head and chest injuries and several broken bones. The victim was not wearing a helmet.
