AUGUST 4, 2009 – A 66-year-old man suffered major head and neck trauma after he was struck by a car while crossing a street in City Heights, authorities said. The unidentified man was attempting to cross Fairmount Avenue at Myrtle Street when he was struck by a Honda about 9:16 p.m., according to San Diego police. The victim was apparently in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by the southbound vehicle, authorities said. The car, which had tinted windows and neon lighting on the undercarriage, was located about 5 ½ hours later at the intersection of Poppy Place and 40th Street, which is about a mile from the accident site, police said. The San Diego Police Department is investigating the pedestrian accident.
