AUGUST 3, 2009 – The body believed to be that of a 28-year-old La Jolla man was recovered from Mission Bay, several hours after he and two friends jumped from a tour boat and attempted to swim to shore, authorities said. The unidentified man was discovered about 3:10 p.m. by dive teams searching in approximately 15 feet of water near Bahia Point, about 100 yards from shore, according to a San Diego lifeguard. The victim and two friends had been aboard the Bahia Belle tour boat when they jumped off about 12:30 a.m. near the Bahia Resort on the western side of the bay, authorities said. The man’s companions reported him missing after they swam to shore. The Bahia Belle is a mock-paddlewheel restaurant-bar cruise boat based out of the Bahia Resort. It regularly cruises Mission Bay.
