Bicyclist Airlifted to Hospital Tuesday after Colliding with Car in Oceanside

JUNE 24, 2009 – A bicyclist was seriously injured after slamming into a car that had cut him off, authorities said. The accident occurred about 6:25 p.m. as the man pedaled on El Camino Real near Vista Way, according to a battalion chief with the Oceanside Fire Department. Witnesses said a small car cut in front of the bicyclist, causing him to collide with the vehicle. The man was hurled over the handlebars and landed on his shoulders and head, authorities said. The bicyclist was wearing a helmet, but claimed he could not remember anything about the accident, officials said. He was flown by helicopter to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla and treated for unknown injuries. The Oceanside Police Department is investigating the accident.
