JUNE 17, 2009 – A pedestrian who tried to flag down a friend instead suffered serious injuries when he was struck by his friend’s truck, authorities said. The driver was later arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of marijuana. The pedestrian spotted a white Ford Bronco driven by Ian Russell about 5 p.m. on Rock Springs Road, and attempted to get the driver’s attention by running eastbound across the road, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Russell did not notice his friend because his view was blocked by a parked truck. The pedestrian was struck by the Bronco and fell to the pavement, hitting his head. Paramedics rushed him to Palomar Medical Center, police said. While investigating the accident, police noticed Russell appeared to be under the influence of marijuana. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and taken to the Vista jail, police said. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident.
