JUNE 10, 2009 – A 29-year-old man was bitten by a rattlesnake that lived in a cage at a drug and alcohol recovery center, authorities said. Paramedics were called to the Christian alcohol and drug recovery center near the community of Shadowridge about 2:30 p.m., according to a captain for the Vista Fire Department. They found a man with swelling to his hand and difficulty with his balance and breathing. He was rushed to Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside and treated with anti-venom. The fire captain was unsure if the man was an employee at the center or a resident. It was also unclear why the rattlesnake was on the premises.
