Driver Pleads Not Guilty in Death of Bicyclist

APRIL 27, 2009 – The driver in a crash that killed a bicyclist earlier this year has pleaded not guilty. On January 6th, 55-year-old Arthur Newman was traveling on Sabre Springs Parkway when he drifted into the bicycle lane and struck Walter Joller, 55, as he rode his bicycle. Although the victim was wearing reflective clothing and flashing lights, Mr. Newman told authorities that he failed to see him. On Friday, Mr. Newman pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter. He was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
