Drunk Driver Sentenced in Fatal Accident

MARCH 4, 2009 – The drunk driver who killed his passenger in Poway last year has been sentenced. 19-year-old Richard Caldwell and three passengers were leaving a party last April 10th when he lost control of his SUV. The vehicle rolled several times, killing passenger Charles Amaro II and injuring two others. Mr. Caldwell was also seriously injured in the DUI crash. He had been speeding at the time of the accident and his blood-alcohol level was .12%. Mr. Caldwell pleaded guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI causing injury. He was sentenced to 56 months in prison.
