FEBRUARY 23, 2009 - A detective for the San Diego Police Department was killed in a motorcycle accident on Friday in Dulzura. 49-year-old Larry W. Steward was riding his motorcycle eastbound on State Route 94 when another vehicle swerved into his path from the eastbound lanes. The vehicles collided head-on, and Mr. Steward was thrown from his motorcycle. He suffered blunt impact injuries to his torso and lower left extremities. He was flown to UCSD Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The other driver, 77-year-old Jose De Jesus Garcia-Gomez, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
