JANUARY 31, 2009 – An Alpine man was killed Friday afternoon on I-15 in Rancho Cucamonga, the CHP has reported.  The accident happened just before 4 p.m. on southbound I-15, south of the Baseline Road accident.  The victim, Donald Cockayne, 82, of Alpine, was driving a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup-truck.  His car was struck in the rear by a Ford Ranger pickup truck, which had reportedly been struck by a third vehicle.  The chain reaction accident caused Cockayne’s truck to lose control, rollover and come to rest against the center divider of the freeway.  Cockayne was pronounced dead at the scene of the freeway crash at 4:35 p.m., according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department’s press release.  The CHP is investigating the cause of the I-15 fatality crash.
