Conviction in 2006 death
A Phoenix man has been convicted in a 2006 death. 30-year-old Karl Russell fled the scene after burglarizing a home in Oceanside two years ago. Police chased him for 4 ½ miles before he ran a red light at El Camino Real and Faraday Avenue. Mr. Russell then struck a pickup truck being driven by 38-year-old Rodrigo Vega. Mr. Vega died as a result of the accident. Mr. Russell was recently found guilty of first-degree murder, residential burglary, car theft, and evading police and causing a death. He could get sentenced to 26 years to life in prison.
