Settlement reached in 2003 construction accident
| $925,000 has been awarded in the case of a 2003 construction accident. On November 17th, Luis Marquez Jr. was employed by Keenan, Hopkins, Schmidt & Stowell Contractors, Inc. Mr. Marquez was working on a construction site when a platform gave way and he fell seven stories. Mr. Marquez died several days later from injuries he received from the accident.
A lawsuit was filed against Commercial Scaffolding Inc. and KCJ Engineering Inc. for incorrectly assembling the scaffolding and it failing to hold enough weight. Commercial Scaffolding argued that their scaffolding did in fact meet the weight requirements, but Mr. Marquez’s employer should be responsible because it allowed three people to stand on the scaffolding, which added excessive weight. |
| Mr. Marquez’s daughter was awarded $925,000 from Commercial Scaffolding.
